Michelin Guide releases 2012 Bay Area Bib Gourmand picks
by Paolo Lucchesi
This year’s Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurants — “where you may eat well for $40 or less” — has been released. The Michelin people originally said the release was due tomorrow, but Bloomberg has published the list of 77 restaurants today, so here you go.
The starred restaurants will be announced next week, October 25.
New to the list this year are Artisan Bistro, Bar Bambino, Bar Tartine, Boon Eat + Drink, Contigo, Cotogna, Fish Story, Fringale, Hot Box Grill, Ippuku, Kappou Gomi, LaSalette, Le Garage, Namu, Osteria Coppa, Plum, Sazon, Scopa and Zero Zero.
So who’s not on the list?
Restaurants that were not on this year’s that were on last year’s list: Bistro 29, Brown Sugar Kitchen, Cafe Des Amis, Cafe Gibraltar, Camino, Coa, Henry’s Hunan, Hong Kong Flower Lounge, La Costanera, Market, Nopa, Sakae, Santi, Sauce, Sons & Daughters, Tavern at Lark Creek, and Vanessa’s Bistro.
Some new openings that have been widely celebrated that are noticeably absent include Bar Agricole and Mission Chinese.
So either those left off the list raised prices too much, dropped in quality — or the best case scenario: they might be getting stars next week. Place those bets.
