San Francisco Fall Restaurant Preview
Osteria Coppa: Extending the city’s zeitgest for pizza and other Italian fare down to the Peninsula, this just-about-to-open osteria (owned by the folks behind Sam’s Chowder House) on the main drag in Downtown San Mateo will feature artisanal pies and seasonally driven pasta. Heading the kitchen is chef Chanan Kamen, who spent the past five years learning a thing or two in the kitchen of Quince. The 145-seat urban-looking space, conveniently located by the movie theater, will offer 40 outside patio seats to take full advantage of the area’s sunny climes. Slated to open on August 25 (139 South B St.; 650-579-6021).
