Osteria Coppa Opens in San Mateo
Julie and Paul Shenkman – the husband-and-wife team behind Sam's Chowder House in Half Moon Bay – have teamed up with Sam's chef-partner Lewis Rossman for a second restaurant. And this time around, they've gone Italian.
Named Osteria Coppa and set in downtown San Mateo, the kitchen is helmed by Chanan Kamen, a 29-year-old chef who has spent the last five years working at Quince in San Francisco.
Kamen's focused, seasonal menu centers around pizzas ($13-$16) and pastas ($14-$18), though there are appetizers and entrees as well. It's a well-sized space – 105 seats inside and another 40 outside – and there's a full bar, too.
Osteria Coppa, 139 South B St. (near Second Avenue), San Mateo; (650) 579-6021 or osteriacoppa.com. Dinner Tuesday-Sunday.
